Really I don’t now how many polar bears (ursus maritimus) are now living in arctic area but surely polar bear is a threatened species. During my bibliography study I found many different estimates on arctic population. It is possible that the number of polar bear in the global arctic area is no more than 18.000-23.000 individuals. We know a lot about his life and biology and about reproduction (delayed implantation/pregnancy) but we all need another kind of knowledge. His worst enemy (as many species) is human being. Hunting and human activities are not only seriously detrimental for polar bear environment and life but often illegal and causes 5% population reduction every year. Polar bear is one of the most important arctic and planet animal, the biggest terrestrial carnivorous mammal and anyone have to act for his preservation.
